New Mexico recertification requirements
New Mexico licenses EMS providers through the state EMS Bureau, and NREMT certification is not required for license renewal. Licenses renew every two years, with all continuing education completed by March 31. Total CE hours by level: First Responder – 20, EMT-Basic – 40, EMT-Intermediate – 50, Paramedic – 60, each with minimum hours across six categories (Preparatory/Operations, Airway, Cardiovascular, Medical, Trauma, and Special Considerations, which includes a pediatric minimum). At least half of the required hours must be completed synchronously (live), and online CE must be New Mexico approved or CAPCE accredited. Renewal also requires a current CPR card (plus ACLS for paramedics), medical director verification of competency, and a state background check every other renewal cycle, all submitted through the New Mexico ImageTrend licensing portal.
