Maryland recertification requirements
Maryland EMS clinicians are certified and licensed by MIEMSS, and the requirements differ by level. Paramedics must maintain active NREMT certification (60 hours per two-year cycle under the NCCP model) and must also complete Maryland State Content Renewal Courses and maintain affiliation with an ALS EMS operational program. EMTs recertify on a three-year cycle through one of two pathways: current NREMT registration, or 24 hours of MIEMSS-approved continuing education in categories designated by the State EMS Medical Director (up to 9 hours may be met through hands-on skills verification). Under either pathway, EMTs must also complete the three most recent Annual Maryland Medical Protocol Update courses and maintain affiliation with a MIEMSS-approved EMS operational program.
